Biography
Professor Chukwudi Onyeaghana Okani was born on September 6, 1973, at Ogidi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. He hails from Ogidi, where he began his academic journey as a pupil at Community Central School, Iyienu Ogidi, in 1979. He briefly attended Community Central School, Nsukka, between 1982 and 1983 before returning to complete his primary education at Community Central School, Iyienu Ogidi, in 1985.<br />Professor Okani continued his education at the prestigious Oraukwu Grammar School, Oraukwu, where he completed his Junior Secondary (JS1-3) and part of his Senior Secondary (SS1). He later moved to Boys’ Secondary School, Ogidi, to finish his Senior Secondary (SS2-3).<br />In his quest for higher education, he enrolled in the Pre-Science Programme at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Campus. There, he was one of the top ten scholars to gain admission into the Faculty of Medicine. He graduated with an MBBS degree from Nnamdi Azikiwe University in May 2002. Following his residency training at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, he became a Consultant in May 2012.<br />Professor Okani is a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and a member of the West African College of Physicians. His academic career began at Benue State University in 2012, and he transferred to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University as a lecturer in 2014. He has since become an award-winning scholar, with the following accolades given to him by his graduating medical students:<br /><br />Best 3rd MBBS Lecturer Award – 2017<br />Best 3rd MBBS Lecturer Award – 2018<br />Overall MBBS Lecturer Award – 2019<br />Professor Okani served as the Head of the Department of Anatomic Pathology at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Awka Campus, and at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka, from 2014 until January 2020. He also served as the immediate past chairman of the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria, Awka Chapter, and has been a member of the University Senate since 2014.<br />He has participated in numerous professional development programs, including the live activity participation in The Brigham Renal Board Review at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, in 2014.<br />Professor Okani is married and blessed with four children.
